Flash flooding possible

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to MONITOR CONDITIONS for forecast heavy rainfall with flash flooding possible:

  • Comboyne
  • Nowendoc
  • Gloucester
  • Barrington Tops
  • Wingham
  • Yarrowitch
43mm was recorded at Upper Chichester in the hour to 8:15pm.

58mm was recorded at Carey's Peak (Barrington Tops) in the 3 hours to 6:38pm.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises a low is moving offshore off the Mid North Coast tonight. Elevated moisture and enhanced flow into topography is expected to bring heavy rainfall to elevated areas of the Mid North Coast and surrounds. The low moves away from the coast during Friday afternoon.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible about elevated parts of the southern Mid North Coast, Upper Hunter, and adjacent districts tonight, before easing below warnings thresholds during Friday afternoon. 6-hourly rainfall totals between 40 and 70 mm are possible, with isolated falls up to 80 mm.

Severe thunderstorms are possible for broader parts of eastern NSW tonight and into Friday. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued if severe thunderstorms are detected.

Flood watches are current for rivers in the area. Please refer to https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts for more detail.

Locations which may be affected include Comboyne, Nowendoc, Gloucester, Barrington Tops, Wingham and Yarrowitch.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.
