Advice

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to MONITOR CONDITIONS for forecast damaging winds:

  • Lord Howe Island

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises a strong north to northeasterly flow will develop this evening ahead of a
trough approaching from the west.

Damaging winds averaging 55 to 75 km/h and damaging wind gusts up to 100km/h
are expected during the evening and overnight. Winds are expected to ease below
the warning threshold on Wednesday morning.

Move your car under cover or away from trees. Secure loose outdoor items. Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the Lord Howe Island Police on (02) 6563 2199.
The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm LHST Tuesday.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.

What you need to do:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel, move indoors, bring children and pets with you.
  • Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
  • If safe to do so, secure or put away items, such as outdoor furniture, trampolines and roofing iron that could blow around in strong winds.
  • Grab your emergency kit in case you lose power or need to leave your home.
