The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to MONITOR CONDITIONS for forecast damaging winds:
- Lord Howe Island
What are we expecting?
The Bureau of Meteorology advises that a deep low pressure system will be slow moving in the Tasman Sea for the next few days, bringing with it gale force winds and large and powerful south to southeast swell. Conditions are expected to ease during the day on Saturday.
Gale force winds exceeding 65 km/h with peak gusts reaching 110 km/h have developed over the island. Winds may briefly ease below warning thresholds during the day on Friday before a more significant easing during Saturday.
Damaging surf conditions, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone, are likely to produce significant beach erosion persisting into the weekend, particularly about south to southeast facing beaches.
This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.
What you need to do:
- Avoid unnecessary travel, move indoors, bring children and pets with you.
- Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
- If safe to do so, secure or put away items, such as outdoor furniture, trampolines and roofing iron that could blow around in strong winds.
- Grab your emergency kit in case you lose power or need to leave your home.
