The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) NOT TO ENTER FLOODWATER due to current rising moderate flooding:

  • Low-lying areas of Angledool and surrounds

You should monitor the situation as it is constantly changing. Avoid floodwater for your safety.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises The flood peak observed last week at Dirranbandi along the Lower Balonne River in Queensland is moving down through the Culgoa, Birrie, Bokhara and Narran River systems. The flood peak along the Culgoa River is around Woolerbilla, along the Bokhara River is around Hebel and along the Narran River is below Dirranbandi-Hebel Road.

Along the Narran River moderate flooding is occurring at Angledool, with a moderate flood peak possible during Wednesday. At Brenda and Goodooga, minor flooding is possible from mid-week.

The Narran River at New Angledool No 2 is currently at 3.53 m and rising slowly, with moderate flooding. The Narran River at New Angledool No 2 may peak near 3.70 m during Wednesday, with moderate flooding.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters:

  • Primary producers in low-lying areas should move livestock and equipment to higher ground.
  • Low-lying roads, bridges and causeways along the river and creeks.
  • Unsealed roads may become impassable.
  • Angledool Road (SR102) is likely to close at the Narran River Bridge, 10km east of Angledool. This means that there will be no direct road access between Angledool and Collarenebri if this occurs.

What you need to do:

  • Farmers should consider moving pumps and farm equipment to higher ground.
  • Plan your route carefully to avoid flooded roads and allow extra travel time.
  • Never drive, walk, ride through, play or swim in floodwater - it is dangerous, toxic, and may void your car insurance. If it's flooded, forget it. Fines apply.
  • Share this information with family, friends, and neighbours and help others prepare where possible.
  • People working or camping along the river should monitor river heights and be prepared to relocate to higher ground.
  • If you have a Home or Business Emergency Plan, follow it. Otherwise, have a conversation and plan for what you will do and take with you if you need to evacuate.
  • Consider the consequences of road and bridge closures and water over roads and make alternate arrangements for work, children, and travel.
  • Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
  • Avoid storm drains and pipes, ditches, ravines and rivers.
  • Companion animals and livestock should be relocated to higher ground that will not become an island.
